Oakland Dish / Rosamunde

It’s springtime and my defending my champs are back out on the field.  Nothing makes me more hungry for a good dog than baseball season, and with two amazing teams in the Bay it’s hard to miss the fever.  Whether you are a die-hard black and Orange fan or you prefer the Green and Yellow, Rosamunde Sausage Grill’s newest store in Old Oakland is the perfect spot to catch a game, a dank brew, and a super tasty dog.

Rosamunde’s has three other locations in the Mission, the Haight, and Brooklyn, and has become famous  for it’s equally delicious meat and vegan sausages.  Grilled to perfection, you can find staples like louisana hots, brats, and italian spicy, as well as fancy house blended sausages like the chicken and habenero, fig and duck, or the wild boar.  Vegan dogs are also killer, and pair that with all vegan sides like baked beans, crispy french fries, or a tasty green salad with sweet peppers and blue cheese and walnuts (hold the cheese for the vegans).

Rosamunde also has a stacked beer list, filled with local favorites like Linden Street and Lagunitas, as well as Belgium brews and specialty craft beers.  Pair that with two big flat screen TVs playing your favorite team, outdoor seating for the sun-lovers, and super friendly service, it’s no wonder this spot is popular in the three coolest cities in the world.

I ordered on my latest trip to Rosamunde:

Louisiana Hot Link with Saurkraut (added ketchup and a little spicey dijon), the side salad (bring on the stinky cheese please), and a Weihenstephaner Hefe Weiss and sat outside (no games on, sad face).

Rosamunde only accepts cash, so come prepped with some crisp ones.

Oakland Dish / Duende

Oakland Dish | Duende | Crown Nine Blog

My Dad recently returned from a long trip to Antartica and so we met up for a dinner date at Uptown’s newest baby, Duende, located in the same art deco building as Flora.  The build out on the restaurant is pretty remarkable, I was impressed with all the rustic wood and beautiful light fixtures.  We came right as dinner was ramping up and were sat immediately at the communal bench in the center of the main dining room.

The menu has a three main sections, Pintixos+ Tapas which are small bites, Raciones with a slightly heartier serving, and then Platos Familiares which are meant to be shared, including Paella.  My stepmom makes the bomb Paella (maybe you’ve seen her cooking it at one of our First Friday openings?), so we ordered off the other sections of the menu.  Here’s what we had:

Bottle of Nidia white wine (I never usually am in the mood for white, must chalk it up to the spring weather).

Ensalada Del Col a finely sliced cabbage salad with green olives and pistachios.

Pebrots Farcits stuffed piquillos+lamb+ currant+cumin+pine nuts

Pescado crudo yellowtail+avocad0+herring bottarga mayonesa+ black sesame+ scallions

Albóndigas green garlic+pork+hedgehog mushrooms+mojo verde

Pecan tart with ice cream and coffee

Oakland Dish / Sub Rosa

Next door neighbors to my homies at Manifesto Bicycles is this little gem, Subrosa.  They serve stripped down and beautiful cups of coffee from Four Barrel.  Beautifully put together, every little crevice is being utilized in the most creative and quiet way.  Terrariums courtesy of Crimson Horticulture, one of the sweet little boutiques in Temescal Alley.  Also, they now have a super killer parklet that was funded by Kickstarter which I chipped in on–I love to see a nice place for people to gather outside.
